Invisible and convenient
Invisalign is a newer method for straightening teeth that is more convenient and discreet than other types of orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign uses clear, plastic aligners to move your teeth. After wearing a pair of plastic aligners for a set period of time, the aligners are swapped out for several sets of new aligners that are a slightly different shape. The first set of aligners is similar to the original tooth placement; the last set is shaped the way the teeth will be when in their proper place at the end of the treatment.
Before a treatment plan is created, digital images of your teeth and x-rays are taken to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign Full, Invisalign Lite, or Invisalign Express.
Types of Invisalign in Warsaw IN
Invisalign Full
Invisalign Full is the Invisalign system used to treat the most difficult orthodontic problems. It also requires the longest treatment time—between 9 and 24 months. However, the results of Invisalign Full are as nearly comprehensive as those of traditional metal braces.
Invisalign Full functions the same way as other types of Invisalign treatment. Each pair of plastic aligners is worn for approximately two weeks, after which they are switched out for a different pair of aligners that is a slightly different shape. Gradually, the trays shift your teeth into their proper positions.
Invisalign Lite
Invisalign Lite treats mild to moderate orthodontic issues. Because Invisalign Lite treats less complex issues than Invisalign Full, it takes less time—usually between four and eight months. Invisalign Lite is often less expensive than Invisalign Full because the treatment time is shorter, but it shouldn’t be used just to save if Invisalign Full is recommended by your orthodontist.
Invisalign Express
Invisalign Express is intended to fix the most minor orthodontic issues. Consequently, it takes the shortest amount of time. It requires the use of only five to ten aligners and is completed in three to six months.
If you had orthodontic treatment before and a couple teeth have shifted over the years, Invisalign Express may be just what you need to realign your smile.
Invisalign Teen
Invisalign is also a great option for teenagers. Teens can enjoy the same benefits as adults can from Invisalign. However, they must be responsible enough to commit to taking proper care of the plastic aligners and wearing them for 22-24 hours per day.
Invisalign Teen has a few extra features that make it unique. There are blue dots on each aligner that fade over time as long as the aligners are worn properly. These compliance indicators reveal whether or not the teen is spending enough time wearing the aligners.
Because some teens still have molars coming in during their treatment, Invisalign Teen leaves room for these teeth and guides them into place. Finally, it can be challenging to keep aligners safe, so Invisalign Teen provides several replacement aligners free of charge for every patient.
Invisalign or Braces?
Braces are traditionally made of metal and attached to the outside of the teeth. Metal wires and rubber bands are attached to the brackets to manipulate your teeth to correct orthodontic problems. Invisalign treatment uses clear, plastic aligners that are made to gradually move the teeth until the correct position is reached.
The type of orthodontic treatment that is appropriate for you depends on the type of orthodontic issues you have. In some cases, Invisalign is better, while braces are the best option in other situations.
The biggest differences between the two types of treatment are Invisalign is nearly invisible and the aligner trays are removable. Patients take their aligner trays out to eat and drink, which means the patient is responsible for keeping them safe and remembering to put them back in. For the best results and to keep treatment moving forward, aligner trays must be worn 20 to 22 hours each day.
