Integrated treatment

Treating the entire patient

Orthodontics isn’t just about straightening your teeth with braces or Invisalign treatment. For many patients, a beautiful, healthy smile can improve their life and make a huge difference in their overall health—especially when treatment is started at a young age. Growth and development of the muscles and jaw can impact a patient’s smile starting at birth.

We also specialize in more than just braces. Many of our patients also benefit from orthotropics, myofunctional therapy, and treatment for sleep apnea/sleep disordered breathing (SDB).

Orthotropics

Orthotropics is the treatment of misaligned bites (malocclusions) through the correction of oral and head posture. Mouth breathing can negatively impact facial growth. This type of treatment
aims to expand the upper jaw and push the upper front teeth forward. Patients may wear a brace or another type of appliance that permanently moves the jaw and face into the ideal position when at rest.

Orofacial myofunctional therapy

Orofacial myofunctional therapy is a type of therapy that addresses dysfunctional muscle patterns and postures of the oral and facial muscles. It is intended to teach the patient how to correctly breathe, chew, and swallow. Serious dental problems may result from incorrect oral postures and/or improper functions of the muscles.

Sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing (SDB)

Sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing (SDB) are symptoms associated with orofacial myofunctional disorders. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts.

Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is a more general term for any breathing difficulties experienced during sleep. SDB can range from frequent loud snoring to obstructive sleep apnea, a condition where part, or all, of the airway is blocked repeatedly during sleep.

Getting a head start on a healthy smile with integrated treatment

Many orthodontists don’t start treatment until age seven. At Warsaw Orthodontics, we practice earlier intervention for children who can benefit from it. We’ve seen amazing results by starting treatment between ages two and three.

We are one of very few orthodontic clinics treating patients this young. Plus, it is incredibly unique to find an orthodontist that provides all of these services—orthotropics, myofunctional therapy, sleep apnea/sleep disordered breathing (SDB), and early prevention—as integrated treatment in one clinic.
